Prevent Winter Pests This Cold Weather Season

The cold weather is upon us, which means more time spent indoors. This goes for humans and for pests as well. Insects and rodents are going to be looking for warmth, food, and water to survive and your home is going to be very appealing to these pests. Prevent them from coming inside by following the tips below:

Spray The Exterior

Spray a pesticide on the exterior of your home to prevent pests such as spiders, ants, stink bugs and roaches from making their way inside. Spray the perimeter of your home or sprinkle a granular pesticide around the exterior. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the pesticide you use.

Remove Overgrown Landscaping

Remove the overgrowth around your home where pests can hide or use as a bridge to get to your home. Pull out or trim any landscaping or other growth that are growing too closely to your home. Trim back trees as well that may be hanging over your house.

Clear Clutter

Clutter and debris that is piled up around your home should be cleared out. Clutter such as wood piles, leaf/brush piles, trash piles or compost piles should be removed from your yard. These piles can house mice and insects, as well as other pests such as raccoons, opossums, skunks and other pests that you surely do not want around your home.

Repair Entryways

The smallest of cracks and crevices can be entry points for pests. Make repairs to your home to keep the pests out. Repair cracks in your foundation using a concrete caulk or patch kit. Repair holes in your siding or to cracks in your brick. Make repairs to seals around your doors and windows where these pests can also come inside. Check your basement or crawl space for entry points as well.

Set Traps

Set traps around your home for ants or other pests such as rodents just in case you have any that have made their way into your home. It's best to trap them before they can get further into your home or before their friends all make their way inside too. You can set traps outside as well or in your garage (if you have an attached garage). You can use commercial baits that can be found at your local hardware store or big box store.

Enjoy your cozy, warm home this winter with your family and friends - not the pest kind of friends. If you have any pests taking over your home call a pest control company for help. Contact a company like Sentinel  Pest Control for more information and assistance.
